Percussion, Jazz Winds, and Jazz Rhythm

New Information - 11/15/10: All
Jazz applicants will be required to improvise as indicated in the
list of prepared pieces.
Required scales: Use the same scales, same
tempo, range and articulation as Wind and Percussion
requirements: chromatic scale, one major scale and its relative
harmonic minor scale using keys up to 4 sharps and 4 flats. o
All saxes, trombones, and trumpets: same as winds o
Vibes: same as xylophone o Piano: same as xylophone but
simultaneously in both left and right hand o Guitar:
same as xylophone (read 8vb) o Bass: same as xylophone,
but 8vb, in bass clef, pizzicato o Drums: no required
scales
Jazz
Drums: All drummers will be asked to play three (3)
sixteen (16) bar phrases as follows: 16 bars or time at the
appropriate tempo, in the appropriate style, 32 bars of "trading
4's", divided as 4 bars of time, 4 bars of solo. They will do
this in all four of the following styles at the given tempo:
o Shuffle at quarter = 152 o Bossa Nova at
quarter = 136 o Contemporary straight 88th
(fusion/funk, etc) at quarter = 100 o Jazz Waltz at
quarter = 144
