First Parish Cohasset is seeking a Part-Time (10 hrs/wk) Pianist/Organist to accompany choir rehearsals on Thursday evenings and play Sunday mornings. Thursday rehearsals are 8-9:30 pm; Sunday morning rehearsals are at 9 am, with the service at 10 am. Occasional extra services are also required, such as Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday. Should have excellent skills on both piano and organ, and have a solid classical background; should also be open to world music and gospel. Solid rhythmic skills required. Should be able to take direction from and work closely with the music director. Interested candidates please contact music director Allegra Martin at allegra.martin@gmail.com. Please attach a cover letter, resume, and three references. Applications will only be accepted electronically. At the interview you will be asked to play a solo and sight-read several selections.
First Parish is a warm and welcoming congregation of about 150 members. The organ is a Tracker Organ built by George Hutchings of Boston in the mid 1800’s and restored in 1970.
The pay is $8,000 per year. The organist may take off 8 Sundays per year (at times mutually agreed upon in advance.) Many opportunities for playing weddings and funerals for an additional stipend. Those without cars are encouraged to apply; the music director commutes from Boston, drives right by all the major subway lines, and is happy to carpool.
Applications will be reviewed starting August 10 and will be accepted until the position is filled.
The job runs September through June. The church’s website is: www.firstparishcohasset.org.
